180 anglers enjoyed excellent fishing, breakfast, hospitality, and a lovely spring day

As the Eyebrook trout fishing season got off to yet another superb opening day. Eyebrook regular Ceth Mauger of Leicester boat fished off the Old Bird Hide area with a Green and Black Tadpole and took one of the first of many limit bags caught on the day, Ceth’s catch of eight fish weighed in at 28lb and included several specimens of between 4lb and 5lb.

Other boat anglers who fared well on opening day were John Rose and Alan Brooking, also of Leicester, who took a limit apiece, John caught on Black and Green Taddies Alan on White and Green Cats Whiskers.

Season Ticket holder Mark Hunt of Market Harborough shared a boat with his brother Simon and both enjoyed good early season action on Gold head nymphs. Simon caught and released eight fine rainbows and Mark returned five including a cracking 7lb specimen.

Thanks to the Lamb party, Robert, Joe, the two Stuarts, Stuart Gordon and Stuart Reybould, Ian, Graham, Danny and Brian, who travelled from bonnie Scotland to enjoy the first three days of the season with us, thanks for all your support lads and “haste ye back”!

Tony Hanks of Stafford caught a superb 10lb 15oz rainbow on Black Minkie boat fishing off the Willows; Tony’s regular boat partner Willie Warren did the honours with the netting.

Early season bank angling at Eyebrook traditionally offers great sport as witnessed by many anglers, amongst them Stewart Clark of Corby who took eight fine rainbows for 23lb 6oz from the wooded bank on a green and Black Taddie.

Tony Pointer of Corby fished the bank at The Willows and caught a fine bag of eight fish that tipped the scales to 21lb 2oz.

John Howe of Finedon took six rainbows on a Red Thorax Pheasant tail nymph that weighed 19lb 2oz; Johns biggest fish weighed 5lb 8oz.

Alan McEvoy of Wilbarston bank fished and took a fine 9lb 8oz Rainbow on a Cats Whisker from Pollards Jump; the biggest fish caught on opening day.

Mick Aldred fished at The Hawthorns and caught and released a fine rainbow estimated to weigh in excess of 8lb, well done Mick.

Dave Chadwick of Ashley took eight good rainbows, fishing the Bung with buzzers; Dave’s eight weighed 21lb 2oz.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank Neville Milson for all his efforts raising funds for our chosen charity for 2010, The English Disabled Fly Fishers Association. Neville often gives up his own time to cook breakfast rolls for hungry fisherman, a big well-done Nev
